About the Films making:
Even though the film came in 1980, The boxing sequences are shot with many special effects. it took nearly 12 weeks to shoot the boxing sequences with consultancy from Jake Lamotta. Martin Scorsese uses many slow motion shots especially to capture scenes with Vikie and Jake,
Verdict:
A Classic from Martin Scorsese. its not a film about boxing not like Rocky series, The Fighter or the warrior. It is a very unique film about how a man is blinded by rage his entire life and ends us loosing his career and his family because of it. This film is one of the milestone films in Rober Deniro's career and one of the early films in the Scorsese- Deniro combo. The film got nominated to 8 Oscars and won Two( Best Actor- Robert Deniro & Best Editing).
I couldn't understand the film at first when i saw it,I thought it was merely a life histroy of a boxer.
Only after I read Robert Erbert review i could understand what the director was trying to tell.
Some of the lines from his blog - In many scenes in the match Jake would take punches and stay on the rope without hitting back, It is as if he considers the ring as a place of penance, a place where he could redeem himself for all hi wrongdoings,
