Plat and Summary:
Indru Netru Naalai(2015) is a ta,il Sci-Fi comedy film written and directed by Ravi Kumar. R. It is about a time travel device, how it gets struck in the protagonist;'s hands and his adventures with the device
The film begins with the quote from Kurt Vonnegut 's Slaughter house 5"
Not only the present , but also the future and the past are happening- An important quote to understand the film
The year is 2065, Aarya is a scientist who has invented a device which can travel through time, He plans to test it and keeps the date as 2015(present day) but the device never returns to the present time, Elango ( Vishnu), Pulivetti( Karunakaran)& Boss( Karthik T.M) see the device appearing out of me where and take possession of it. Boss who is techie discovered somehow that it's a time machine, but he goes to a coma due to an unfortunate accident. Now Elango and Pulivetti make use of the device to make money , altering the past to their need. Everything seems to go well for both of them Elango gets Anu's(Mia George) parents approval, Pulivetti becomes really famous until one day when everything goes wrong.
The director sets the scene in the first few minutes of the film and he points to many indirect stuff at the beginning( the dog getting struck , The death poster of the baddie etc). Then we come to realize, how these small incidents will affect the protagonist's life, when they alter it in time. Very scientific in Kollywood I must say.

Sci Fi films are very rare in Tamil, mostly because the audience reception to it, Even in some cases if were made, most films are completely illogical. INN proves to be very different. The director from the first tries to explain the concept of time and time travel in a very simplistic way. Though not much is explained on how the machine works (its better that way, keeping it simple). But, the film is on the whole a very logical take on time travel( atlest to a layman who doesn't know about concept of spqce time). The use of very small additional scenes make us really understand parallel realities ( In the first scene when BOSS looks out at a noise near his window and the time when Puli looks at the rear view mirror and sees himself in the bike).
Though the film is a Sci-fi , it has all the elements of a commercial flick, there are fight scenes with the villain, a separate story runs in parallel for the baddie and a comedy track, though they are a bit cliched, It will be necessary to bring the sci-fi elements to the Tamil audience.
Verdict:
I cannot say INN is out and out Scifi thriller with amazing graphics and visualization. It is a Scifi film for the Local audience, The director tries to make Scifi in a more watchable genre for the audience. Though there are a lot of side track in the film (like the life of the baddie, and the comedy scenes), it is very refreshing film in the present times. Kudos to the director for the wonderful attempt. Vishnu is either plain lucky or very intelligent in choosing his films, an array of success from Vennila Kabadi kuzhu(2009) to the recent Jeeva(2014). Mia George impresses with the natural acting though she comes in very few scenes. Overall a good Tamil Sci-fi flick.
