Plot and Summary:

Spotlight can be considered as one of the many films which released at the end of 2015 and is probably one of the strong contenders for the Oscars next year. The Film revolves around a few people in the Boston Globe Newspaper, Michael Rezendes (Mark Ruffalo), Sacha Pfeiffer( Rachael Mcadams) two investigative journalists and their boss  Walter Robinson (Micahel keaton). They for the elite team Spotlight , which does private investigations on some of the untouched issues in their locality and makes its comments to the readers. the film begins with Marty Barons( Leiv Schreiber) joining as the new editor for the Boston Globe and he assigns "Spotlight" on the story of a Local priest Molesting some kids in the neighbour hood. At first the team is quite unsure of the topic except for Michael who seems enthusiastic, After they start to dig they find out that this is something which needs attention to and this news which they will print will have an impact on the entire church community, Do they publish the story or not is the rest of the film.

The Film is based on actual events and the Article - " Church allowed Abuse by priest " was an actual print in 2002 and it won the Pulitzer prize in 2003, Though the film draws many comparison to Newspaper movies like "Zodiac" and "All the Presidents men", Spotlight is strikingly unique, More than the story line which seems to be pretty straightforward , it is the way the story is revealed which keeps the pace of the movie always in a high note. The Oldschool way in which the director keeps also adds to the depth of the film. Although the story is based on actual events it is quite shocking to know that the christian society is quite conservative even in a country such as the USA, Walter who seems to be the wise one in the entire team knows the result of the investigation from the start and he keeps the ever energetic and neurotic Michael on the leash and asks him to wait untill the team gets the complete evidence for the entire story, This scene is probably why the movie can be considered as an oscar worthy performance for both Michael Keaton as well as Mark Ruffalo.

Mark Ruffalo as Michael Rezendes can be considered as one of the tough roles in the entire film, All the other characters are quite normal in terms of behaviour on screen but Michael is the emotional one and he gets a lot of attention in the entire film, Mark Ruffalo plays his part perfectly, actually it is quite tough to decide will he be nominated for the best actor or the supporting actor if he ever gets nominated  because the cast is as such, there is no leading or supporting roles.

The screenplay is very fast paced and more that the director's effort to make it as fast as possible the story as such is really that intriguing. But, anyways the director does a fine job. What makes spotlight so convincing is the ending of the film, It is not quite what we would expect from the movie, As the film nears the end Walter and Marty plan to sue the court and we think we are going to see court scenes where the Newspaper fights the Church but the film ends with the publishing of the the Article and the the actual events which happened after the release of the article just displayed preceding the credits quite similar to Zodiac at the end.
