2016 Ends with the best film yet! - Dangal (2016)

Films based on sports are quickly gaining lot of attention in Indian cinema, Particularly if we the present there has been some very good films like M.S Dhoni(the untold Story), Sultan and Iruthi Suttru which were both commercially successful and well made. However even though Dangal has released somewhat at the end of 2016 It will surpass all the other movies in terms of satisfaction to the art and popularity, there are many reasons for this , one of the main reason is that it is based on a true story then there is the fact that its about women wrestlers( Somewhere similar to Mary Kom and iruthi Sutru) and finally"the Amir Khan factor"

Short Gist:

Based on the the true story of  Wrestling sisters Geetha and Babitha Singh Phogat. How their father mahavis singh raises them and leads them to win gold in Delhi Commonwealth games 2010

The story line and the screenplay is pretty straight forward and since we know that it is based on true events, there is no suspense in the film, but the film is witty, engaging and fun to watch every minute. The casting is what came to my mind first after watching about half of the film, there is Amir Khan the father and the coath and then there is his wife - Sakthi Tanwar other than these two known faces there is not much experienced people in the film and it makes complete sense, because as we go deep into the film, it transforms completely and someone like Ritika singh in Iruthi Sutru, Who can perform very real Wrestling sequences is essential to make this film work.

Making a sports biography takes a toll on the actors, and Especially for wrestling whose format is quite unfavorable makes it even more difficult. The entire match as a rule gets over under 6 minutes which gives the actor very little time to showcase their ability and to bring that amount of conviction is quite challenging. But the dangal sisters make it seem very easy(Seemes very close to watching the actual match), At the last 20 minutes the movie was more like a game and people were cheering with every point lost or gained. The level of dedication and attention to detail in this film is too much, one of the main aspects is Amirs transformation, I could not understand why Amir sported his transformation from a Youth Wrestler to an old coach for only a running time of 5 mins,. It is not necessary but I think he was leading by example to Dangal sisters :D.

The film is not a completely serious biography, actually part of the film is narrated by the funny cousin of the Phogat sisters and there is good amount of comic scenes in the first 20 mins of the film, May be the film might be a even better classic without the comic elements the film would not have such a reach to the masses as it has now.
