The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

The Dark Knight rises is the third and final part of the Batman trilogy, It marks the end of one of the successful superhero sequels ever made. Bruce Wayne dons the Batman's mask once again to face Gotham city's old enemy The league of Shadows.

Cast : Christian bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain, Tom hardy, Joseph Gordon-Lewit, Annie Hathaway & Marion Cottilard

Plot and Summary:

The film begins a nuclear physicist being kidnapped by the masked man - Bane- a member of the League of Shadows. In gotham city it is  Harvey Dent's anniversary , It has been 8 years, since then Gotham has been quite and Bruce wayne has become an old man with a cane. He meets catwoman - Selena Kyle( played by Anna Hathaway) on the party when she tries to steal his prints but she escapes.

The league of shadows has risen up, this time with Bane , once again and the plot slowly unravels on how bane occupy's Gotham and how batman battles him and saves Gotham.

Batman's protoge - Robin is introduced in this film, Officer Blake(played by Joseph gordon levitt), His character is one of the improtant which brings bruce out of his hidings, Blake identifies himself with bruce, both being orphans their entier life and both of them lived a solidary life trying to bury their anger. There is a conversation when Blake meets Bruce and he tells him " Bruce wayne the billionare orphan,we used to make storys about you all night. But the moment i saw you i recognized that look on your face , i have seen the look on your eyes and its the same look that i have taught myself " . He then tells him about gorgon getting lost in the sewers. This is when Bruce decides to come out of hiding.

Batman's Character is very different in the film, unlike the first and the second ones, his opponent seems to be very hard to defeat and eventually he goes down to him. Maybe the director wanted to show the character's true potential by putting it to an impossible task. The pit is one of the important scenes of the film where Bruce regains his strength. Its is where the importance of fear is taught to him. After failing to get out 2 times.the doctor advises him not to use the rope, " Dont use the rope , the fear will find you some how". Christian Bale once again shows his effort to transform physically from the first scene to latter in the film.

The true genius of the director is in the depth of the story of the film, it is twisted with many turns till the end of the film. The visuals are really a treat to watch, the first scene where a plane is torn apart in mid air and the tunnels getting blown with people getting trapped in. Nolan proves his scientific genius yet again.

Unlike in the Joker, Bane is a very straight forward villain
, But the Dark Knight rises is more about bruce than the villain, its about how he finds himself and the true purpose of Batman. But, the story line and the ending were quite predictable. At the beginning of film , when we see the league of shadows and from Alfred's words we could definitely make it clear that this is the end of the batman.

Alfred also plays a major role in the film though he goes away in the middle of the film, he tells to Bruce the truth about Rachael finally which further deepens hatred towards life. Which then Leeds him to an unprecedented enemy. At the end, when batman flies with the nuclear device into certain death, the music fades away, even though Nolan's films are never emotional. This one did it!. That scene defined batmans true purpose for Gotham which Alfred says in the previous part.

Leaving everything aside, I just could not accept The Dark Knight rises, the main reason for that is the previous film. The impact which that created left the expectations for this film a very high level. I doubt that lever can never be filled.

Verdict:,

A fitting farewell for a great saga. Even though it was a very straightforward story and it got dragged in many places. Nolan finishes real Strong. Leaving aside the first and the second parts this is a great superhero flick with superb sequences and some brilliant performances.
