Valiyavan(2015)

Valiyavan is an Tamil Romantic Action film directed by Saravanan of Engeyum Epothum fame. Its about how an ordinary man defeats an international boxer for personal vengeance

Cast: Jai, Andrea

Plot and Summary & Conclusion:

Valiyavan is an out and out commercial film which has a good story line and good performances by the lead which goes wrong somewhere in the middle. Through many criticized the film i really liked Jai's performance and the way the director leads through the story. Hence i would not tell the plot but highlight on the performances and would give my opinion on how the movie could have been made.

The first half of the movie is an narration of movie is about Jai's narration on his enemy and why does he want to defeat him so badly, From his past we can see that he is an ordinary man and leads a normal life. There is continuous cycling between Jai's past and the present and we don't really understand Jai's motives until the very end of the film when his Girl friend (played by Andrea) explains it to him. Through out the film the director tends to explain the plot to the viewers, how does an ordinary man attempts the impossible and succeeds. he does it through the leads role and finally he himself does it at the climax by his narration. Though this story draws its inspiration from Rocky both are very different films and the motive of both the leads are quite different. Given the case, This movie could be made to believe by concentrating more on the training or more on his transformation than the unnecessary scenes which happen in all Tamil movies.

The film was intriguing the plot was beautifully conveyed but it lacked conviction and it lacked a lot of it, I couldn't blame the actor, he was transformed from the first scene i can give you that. I mean not only physically but his expressions and everything. the moment when he says to his girlfriend about his broken cellphone and when he conveys his victory over his enemy, he was really convincing and i could not blame him. It was his training that was a bit dragging and there was no means to say how he gained his strength to face such an opponent at the end.  The basic plot of this film and rocky is fairly the same, yet the treatment given has made all the difference.

At the end i cannot say it is a completely letdown but if any focus was given on how to end the film with conviction by the audience this would have been an memorable performance and a film to remember.
