Thegidi (2014)

Plot and Storyline:

Thegidi(Dice and Deception) is a Tamil crime thriller directed by debutante P. Ramesh. It is story of Vetri (played by Ashok Selvan) who is a criminology student. How he gets involved in a serial killings and does he find the people behind these events is the rest of the film.

After seeing Vetri's observatory skill and his keen interest in being a detective his teacher Raghuram(played by Jayaprakash ) suggests him to join Radical detective services, a private detective agency . Vetri meets Saylesh (played by Jayakumar) and Sadagopan(played by Pradeep Nair) and starts his assignments in Chennai.

He meets Madhu (played by Jannani Iyer) while trying to break in to a clients house. She incidentally becomes his next target. After following her many times he breaks his rule of not approaching his target and meets her. They become friends quickly and the friendship slowly develops into something more.

After a month Vetri notices that most of the people who he collected information are dead. He tries to contact the last remaining targets and askes their current location to meet them. They also get killed before he could reach them, in one case he sees the suspects car. He finally finds out the suspect who is none other than Salilesh, his boss.

Vetri tries to warn Madhu of the impending danger, but she somehow finds out about Vetri being a detects and she was his target.  She walks away and Vetri is really confused now. The rest of the film is about how Vetri finds why salilesh and Co commit all the killings and Does he get out alive?

Verdict:

Though the film is not inspired from any novel. The Storyline is very similar to that of a crime novel. Especially " Sadagopan Vallabo" the mastermind who never comes in the film , we only hear of him and finally he calls and the film ends. Inspector Raghuram plays an important role in the film, he helps Vetri solve the case untill the end. He is very perceptive and figures out exactly what's gonna happen, his character is old school officer who has been in the job for a long time to  know how things will turn out to be.

Thegidi is not a commercial film. There are no fights, songs are there but we'll woven in the film. It's a classic suspense thriller and the director gives the right treatment to make it a hit.

Like all Crime thriller the main suspense lies untill the very end of the film where all the knots are undone. True to its name the Deception is carried till the end. this film is a great start for Ashok, the director potrays him in a stylish, mysterious detective. Janani Iyer leaves a lasting impression in the few scenes which she plays. Kalai Venkat first film as full time comedian is really good. Overall a fresh Crime thriller in Hollywood after a long time.
