Plot and Summary:

Thani Oruvan( Individual) is a tamil action film directed by Mohan Raja, His first original script as a director and as a co writer. The film is about the life of two people - Mithran(Jeyam Ravi) and Palani A.K.A Dr Siddharth Abimanyu (Aravind Samy).

The plot begins with the origin of the Villian - Palani, He accepts a murder of a politician and goes to prison so that his father could be a member of a political party. Then the story of the protagonist begins. Mithran, During his IPS training he and his friends work on some small cases to stop the crime in the city. But there is something strange with Mithran which we find out eventually. There is a caption in his house - " Tell me who is your enemy and I will tell about you". This line defines the film in many ways. Mithran shows what he has been doing for the past 15 years, his pursuit to find his enemy. He finally finds his match when he finds about Siddarth Abimanyu. The rest of the film is about the duel between them and who triumphs in the end.

I don't think we can consider Thanioruvan as a typical tamil film with a hero and a villian, it is more than a typical commercial flick, Right from the first scene though Mithran is portrayed in positive shades, When he shows his desire to find Siddarth and kill him, for a moment we get confused if Siddarth is the villain or Mithran is. Siddarth character is of a modern villain, heartless, cool and confident. His character is given more importance than that of the Mithran, Thats the level of depth which the Director gives to his character. This performance will be remembered for a long time for Aravind Samy. We can clearly see that the director has planned his character in great detail, The scene when he comes and says to the prime minister that he has killed his dad and tells about the day he accepts the blame for his murder are high points in the film, It tells us how heartless he really is and to what extent his capabilities really are.

I really wished that Mithran could match the level of Siddarth's character, yes in the end Mithran does outsmart Siddarth( He does it ! end of story, The director makes a real complex screenplay which is quite difficult to follow and the important thing is everything is logical), but in the end he becomes a like a common hero, the vengeance we see in the first scene is gone, He becomes more practical at the end. I really wanted Mithran to kill Siddarth or at least a duel at the end but nope!

Nayanthara plays Mahima , The female lead. A much needed comeback for the actress, she is more of another member of Mithran's squad against Siddarth than that of heroin, which is interesting rather than a regular role.

It is the Climax that i could not get, Hate to be a spoiler but I thought , Aravind Samy and Jeyam ravi become friends of sorts, both of them admired and respected each other so much that it was too hard even for  Ravi to see him die that too in his lap. In many ways i think Sidhharth was a better partner to Mithran than Mahima in the entire film, Both of them complimented each other well and there is more chemistry between them that that of the Hero-Heroine, Thats the whole point of the movie i guess, In the end i seriously doubt that Sidarth's character repents for his crime and gives in to Mithran, I think its because they ended up liking each other too much (Just a thought which seemed logical)

Verdict :

Its a film dedicated  more to the villain than to the hero, but it works anyway. Excellent  characterisation , Plot and screenplay. Subha teams up with Mohan for the first time and we can clearly see all the technie stuff used in the film is cause of that. I think Mohan Raja might have kept prepared the story and the script for this film a very long time ago, Lots of attention to detail is given and the screenplay is so racy .

Aravind samy is too good as a villain, His portrayal of Siddarth is best comeback anyone could imagine. There will be many roles after this one, i am sure of it. Great background score and Tracks by HipHop Tamizha Aadi,Overall One of the best action flicks in 2015. The combo has worked once again.
