Plot and Storyline :

Udaan( Flight) 2010 is a Hindi drama film directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Anurag Kashyab and Ronnie Screwala. The film starts with Rohan and 3 friends watching a Adult film bunking college and the next day they get expelled. The film then follows the life of Rohan return to his father after 9 years of silence.

Rohan's Father Bhairav Singh( Ronit Roy) is a typical strict father who believes in discipline. Rohan comes home to find that he has a 6 year old stepbrother Arjun( Aayan) and  his stepmother has left him. The situation at home proves to be very different for Rohan.  His dad is to be addressed as "Sir",  he feels that he has joined another boarding school except that there are no friends here.

Rajat Bramecha as Rohan is the lead character of the film. Throughout the film we see the hardships faced by him because of his father. The director beautifully portrays his Character and streches it until it finally breaks at the end. In the beginning Rohan is one of the happiest of the group of his friends always happy and creative. He recites his poems to his friends and believes that he can make it big in his life. At Jamshedpur all his dreams are shattered. Rajat convinces as Rohan when he displays passive aggression to his father when he controls his anger, defends his brother when he gets admitted in the hospital because of the physical abuse of his father and finally when he breaks away at the end. His character gets transformed as a Man i would say from the Kid who comes from school when he finally decides to take his younger brother away from his dad.

Ronit Roy's Character in the film proves to be the most important in the film. Though he has a drinking problem and shoes no affection to his kids. I'm some scenes we could see behind his Character and find the his reasons. When he gets too drunk he makes some conversations with Rohan in which he tells his dreams for him - to educate him in England and to make him a good engineer in Jamshedpur. He truly believes that by his methods he could raise his children. May be that was what happened to him as a child,  we don't know much about his past but we can assume that it was something that happened which has changed to his current state. The director beautifully breaks down his psyche and gives different layers of emotions hidden and revealed one at a time. And the end we don't fully understand it.

Jimmy( Ram Kappoor) , Bhairav's brother is the only good soul for Rohan. He appreciates his poetry and encourages him to do more even though Bhairav's doesn't approve of it. There are many untold story between Bhairav and Jimmy and why Jimmy always supports his big brother even after what he does to his kids. A brilliant and convincing performance by him too.

Verdict:

At the end of the film, after breaking his dad's Contessa and getting caught . Rohan decides to leave along with his brother. It's really poetic at the end when Rohan makes a run and his father chases him. He finally takes a lead and his father stops and watches him leave. All through the film Rohan looses to his father every time but at the end something else happens. I don't know if Bhairav finally sets him free or he actually cannot catch up with him.Brilliant performance by Rajat, Ronit and Jimmy and truly a  noteworthy film from Bollywood.
