Plot and Summary:
Orange Mittai is a tamil Black Comedy directed by Biju Vishwanath and produced by Vijay Sethupathi. Its the story of two men, Sathya( Ramesh Thilak), a paramedic working for an ambulance service and Kailasam( Vijay Sethupathy), an old man suffering from mental disorders. The film begins with a fight between Sathya and his lover at her home and he is called to attend a heart attack patient Kailasam, When Sathya and his friend Aarumugam(Aarumugam Bala) rush to Kailasam's house they find that he is alright and he has been a heart patient for a very long time. The adventure begins there and the rest of the film is fun filled adventures which Kailasam and Sathya have together.
Sathya has lost his father recently, exactly one year the day he meets kailasam, Though Kailasam is very irritating to be around Sathya sees traces of his dad in him and ends up being with him inspite of all his troubles. kailasam suffres from a mental disorder and needs to be admitted for furthur treatment which we get to know from the later part of the film. The relationship between the Sathya and Kailasam is what pulls the film through, It is very rare to see a son seeking out for his father which we see in this film and Ramesh sells out Sathya perfectly. Vijay Sethupathy 's attempt as Kailasam is commendable, though he streaks his hair white, has a big tummy and changes his gait to suit his role, i really could not find an old man in him, I wish if it were done by Nasser or Sathyaraj this role would have been even better, Kailasam as a character seems really good on paper. But there are some dialogues which kailasam gives which catches , like the one where he says to Sathya
"unakon oru naal vayasu agon , en nelama unakon varum"
Verdict:
The film has no drama as such. Its just a subtle relationship between two men one who lost his dad, and one who is yearning for his sons love. The film has a lot of fun moments, Aarumugam is good in a full length comedy track, Vijay Sethupathy also seems good with sarcastic humour as Kailasam. I really could not find in depth of Kailasam's Character, may be at some point like when he stands for him in the doctor's place. but it gets lost through the film. Ramesh Thilak does justice to his role in the film. He really tries but without the same from Kailasam i felt the whole scene was incomplete.
Biju Vishwanath does a bold step by choosing such an offbeat subject and its more like watching a short film that an actual feature film, its within an hour. Its a really good attempt but i felt the storyline or the end could have been different.
