The Martian 2015

Plot and Story line:

The Martian is an america Sci-fi movie about an astronaut getting stuck in Mars during a mission and how he survives during the time. It is based on a novel by Andy Weir of the same Name. The film begins with the start of the Mission "Ares 3" Where Mark Watney( Played by Matt Daemon) is Killed by a debris in mars and all the other crew members leave mars to earth as their mission is complete. The film then pans on to show that Mark is alive and  how he survives and does he get rescued is the remaining part of the film.

The film is one of the striking different both as a Ridley Scott movie and as a Survivor Film. Thinking of Survivor films what comes to my Mind is Cast Away, 128 Hrs etc. All of these film had a lot of psychological aspect to it. The Protagonist breaks down at some point in the film unable to confront the brutal realities of the state he is in but " The Martian " completely different, The second reason for Martian being unique is the director of the Film. What i expected from the films credits   like it is a survivor film and  Ridley Scott is the director was that it would be more about how Matt Daemon becomes more and more depressed on dying in Mars with many Psychic attacks will follow  and off course a few night mares would be there  but i was really surprised after seeing the film. It is the complete opposite of what i expected to see. Right from the film mark Watney tries to accept the fact that he is alone in mars and he has to survive, There are some really intelligent and interesting stuff he does on the Base camp some of them like (Spoilers Ahead) Grow a potato farm on mars, make water by burning the hydrogen, Find the Discovery and contact earth with it. 

The narrative of Mark Watney is to the Video log that he does daily. I cannot say that Mark's Character is all positive and always looking at the bright side of things. He breaks down sometimes but it is not explicitly shown in the film. there are some scene in the film which show that " The martian is truly a " one of a Kind story" - When Mark goes out into the Shuttle he says " Where ever i go , what ever i do. I am the first man Here to do it. It Feels kind of weird!. Unlike any Ridley Scott Movie, The martian does not have any Drama which i think is a an important aspect, but the Plot as such is really engaging. The Real suspense and the tense scene comes near the end of the film when Lewis ( Jessica Chastian) finally rescues Mark to safety in mid space. After mark returns he some becomes a Professor in the NASA Academy for selection of Astronauts. He tells his students on How did he survived in Mars, It is hear where we hear how he accepted the truth and started to work for a solution towards it.

" The Martian" is the second film in 2 years which Matt Daemon is portrayed as an astronaut, that too an astronaut in the same circumstances. In both films his character is almost same. he does not really explicitly portray his true nature outside and may be it worked for him the second time too. The plot of the film is the key element in the whole film. It is a true science fiction film with very good conviction covering what all possible things that one could expect in a space mission . A bit of depth to Matt Daemon's Character would have been better, Something similar to Tom Hanks in Cast Away.
