Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi (Blue Sky, Green Earth, Red earth) 2013(Its quite a lengthy name to keep as the title :P)
Its quite rare to see the a films such as NPCB( refer the title for the name) in mainstream cinema, The genre of the film is a Road thriller movie and its somewhat loosely based on The Motor Cycle Diaries. I am not saying that it is that off-bead, it has all the typical Dulquer Salmaan's attributes to make it click in Mollywood as well as the whole of south india, What is most striking about this film is the narration and the theme of the film as such, revealing any further of the film will only spoil the story line.
Short Gist:
The Film is about a the protagonist's journey from his home town of Kerala to the Northeast of India in search of his loved one, redemption and in the process finding himself( Oh shit! i revealed so much already !!)
The story line is that simple(its not so simple at the beginning). Its the narrative at the beginning of the film which impressed me the most. the entire film is from the narrative of the protagonist and it begins with the start of the journey where he contemplates about the need to ride his bike and his love for the person who has left him. It is also how the plot is slowly unraveled to the audience which makes the film quite impressive, We get to know the actual intentions of the protagonist only somewhere in the middle of the film, Till then it is only visions and imaginations the Hero has about the leading lady( It was quite confusing till this point , I was under the impression that all this was just a lucid dream!)
The Cinematography and music needs a special mention as every scene was very beautiful to watch and was also sensibly caught. NPCB is a film of large distances geographically, It starts in Kerala, stops near Orissa and ends somewhere in Nagaland . The Riders -Kashi(Dulquer Salmaan) and Sunny (Sunny Wayne) are quite convincing for their characters,Kashi who is lost emotionally, tries to make this journey to get over his lost love and to make some sense of what is going on with his life, Sunny who rides along just to get the fun out of it and to be there for his friend Kashi. Off all the other aspects which i saw in the film what i found most convincing was the way the director could connect riding to getting a redemption in life, Almost most of the journey in the film is shot on Highways and Motels, It is something that happens in an emotional level when you watch this movie till the end(Especially you own a bike same as the one used in the film!!). A refreshing movie which i would definitely recommend.
