Hard hitting drama - Aruvi(2017)

Its almost the end of 2017 and after a list of many disappointing films for several months Aruvi 2017 has cleared the dry spell with its completly fresh screenplay and crisp storyline.

Except for Lakshmi Gopalakrishnan all the cast members are debutants but we don't get this feeling while watching the movie. Actually, in half way through the film I could understand that this could never be a work of a seasoned director but I think the way the director tells the story(which needs a special mention because of the non linear way the story goes forward), the attention he has given to detail( to pull the logic for the story line) and finally how he has made things relatable tells that he knows his craft. I watched this film several times, not only because it was that good, but i could find new elements in the film which supports the events.

It is quite difficult to give an absolute simple plot of the film without telling spoilers. But i can tell how the plot goes about in the film. The film is about Aruvi( Played by Aditi Balan also a dubutant).  This film is in a way her story, the film starts with her childhood and slowly moves on to her youth, to her adulthood and finally what happens which makes her a rebel which is obvious from the varios posters of the film.

On one hand the film is very artistic, the whole portion of Aruvi growing up and being an adult was captured so beautifully, kudos to the cinemotographer, On the the other had the film retains all the necessarz elements for a movie to be commercially viable, there is suspence, comedy, emotion(lots of it actually) which makes this film a complete package. I could almost compare this film to "Queen" of Bollywood but Aruvi is much more dark and hard hitting. One more thing which I found interesting or even fasinating is the mood shift of the film. It would be even better if i explain this with the plot but that would mean spoiling the plot. There is this scene where the progagonist is with the rest of the crew and it starts of with a simple conversation and in 10 mins of the same scene we are sitting completly speechless because of the plot twists and in another 10 mins we are laughing out so loud that  i though this was a comedy film. The same applies to the cast, i cannot even say that these guys are the antogonists and these are the good people, the way the director has spun this story is beyond comparison to anything that has come in recent times.

Aditi balan has done great justice to the role of Aruvi, I think it was a good choice to cast a newcomer for this fresh script. I hope she gets better oppurtunities like this in future. The music is as fresh as the film itself. Screenplay- cinemotography-music all work hand in hand.

Aruvi will make you laugh, will make you think, will make you cry and I think it will definitly hit you very hard just like very few movies which have ever done.
